As part of the NRS project’s ongoing effort to help states and programs improve their use of data for program improvement, there is a new webinar series on “Promising Practices in Program Management and Data Use”. Each webinar will center on a specific strategy using data for program improvement.
Webinar on Data Use in the Classroom
State directors from Oklahoma and Missouri discussed what they have done at the state level to promote data use in the classroom. Then, staff from two local programs from these states discussed how the use of data has been integrated into their program and what the results have been. The webinar focused on how these programs use data in their classrooms, what has worked, what some of the challenges have been, and what their data show.

The final draft of the Guide to Building and Sustaining NRS Data Quality will be released late summer 2008.
The time covered for reporting employment measures for the NRS will change with the next annual report (due by December 31) to cover multiple years. During this webinar, Larry Condelli and Mike Dean explained the reasons for this change and the new reporting periods and answered questions about the changes.
State staff from adult education and labor departments in Maryland, South Dakota, and Tennessee shared their strategies for using data to monitor compliance with NRS and state requirements, evaluate data quality, and assist in program improvement efforts. This was the second Data Detective webinar, which is similar to the earlier webinar held on October 3, 2006. Read more about what these three states are doing and view examples of professional development training guides and materials.
This webinar introduced a new exercise: the teacher-level data carousel. This exercise is modeled on the data carousel exercise presented at the live Data Detective training events held in the summer of 200; however, the new exercise uses data from the classroom level instead of program level. The webinar presented the new exercise and suggested guidelines for training use.
Please note: Due to technical difficulties, this webinar was conducted as a conference call. Therefore, we do not have a recording to view or download.
